My Lashes are Falling out! The official name for eyelash hair loss is known as milphosis if it occurs by itself. This problem is almost always on the inside but not always. These are all conditions that fit under the same umbrella - disordered eyelash growth!

Like anything there are degrees to which this can occur. Many of the same issues that cause eyebrow hair loss ALSO cause eyelash hair loss. This means if you are suffering from one you may be suffering from the other.

Generally these conditions tend to go together but not always. Alopecia Perhaps one of the most important causes of eyelash hair loss is a condition known as alopecia. Another form of alopecia is known as alopecia adnata. If you have eyelash hair loss you will most likely need to see a Doctor for treatment. Hormone imbalance can actually refer to several conditions, all of which may impact your lashes. BOTH conditions may cause lash breakage. And these conditions are very common.

This isn't true for all conditions, though. Some direct skin conditions can also cause eyelash hair loss. What do I mean by direct skin conditions?

The good news about these conditions is that they are often easier to spot. It's easier to identify a problem on your skin than it is a hormone problem in your blood. Trichotillomania Trichotillomania is an impulse disease that is not quite as common as some of the other diseases mentioned here. In trichotillomania patients may inadvertently pull out or break their own hairs. These hairs may be those on their head, on their eyebrows and even their own eyelashes.

Trauma Trauma is a term used to describe a condition which causes damage. And this type of trauma can definitely cause issues with eyelash hair growth. Any condition which damages the overlying skin may cause hair loss.

But just because you have trauma doesn't mean that you will lose your hair. These type of conditions usually don't go unnoticed, though! This a medication used to treat depression and anxiety and it is very commonly prescribed! While these types of reactions are not very common they are definitely worth considering. In some cases, however, the hair loss can be delayed by months. One of the many benefits of extensions is not having to wear mascara.

Mascara can break down the bonds in the adhesive of the extensions. If you insist on still wearing mascara, make sure to apply it only to the middle of the lash and down to the tip. Waterproof mascara is even harder to remove. You can end up tugging the extension out of place when trying to remove it.

Having oily skin can be an annoying problem to deal with. It also can cause problems for lash exten-sions. Overly oily skin can break down the glue adhesive, causing the extensions to have difficulty sticking. In extreme cases of oily skin, lash extensions might not even stick at all. We like to think that the technician applying our lashes is experienced and knows that she is doing. However, there is still the possibility for error.

The technician might not have properly glued the lash or did not use enough glue. She also could have neglected to prep the lash before applying the extensions. Over-the-counter lash serums may cause sensitivity or adverse reactions in some people. Consult with your ophthalmologist to determine if these products are appropriate for you.

Common Causes of Eyelash Loss There are many reasons people can lose more lashes than average. Leaving eye makeup on too long, using and removing lash extensions and using eyelash curlers heated or non-heated can all harm lashes and speed up shedding.

Eyelash loss can also stem from allergies to mascara and from glue used to apply eyelash extensions. Itchiness or burning accompanied by redness or swelling of the lids may indicate blepharitis. This is a condition that happens when clogged oil glands near the base of the eyelashes cause chronic inflammation and problems in the eyelash follicles.

This is a condition where emotional or psychological distress causes a person to pull out their own eyelashes habitually. Skin cancer. More rarely, localized lash loss can be a symptom of a skin cancer on the eyelid.

Cancer can interrupt eyelash growth as harmful cells spread. The most common causes of overall hair loss, including eyelashes, are: Alopecia.
